Crystal's character in the "Museum" movies is named Dexter.
She was the first celebrity to arrive on the red carpet last Friday in New York, dressed in a tuxedo, and posed for photos, pausing for a break now and then for a quick treat from her trainer.
Shawn Levy has directed all three of the movies in the franchise and is well-aware of Crystal's appeal.

"None of us actually matter if you've already gotten your shot of the monkey. So has that happened? I hear the monkey was in a tux. Was it just ridiculously cute? Literally we like made three of these movies and gotten a lot of success but I know it's all because of the monkey."
Actor Owen Wilson agrees.

"What a little scene stealer Crystal is as Dexter. Yeah, what is it about monkeys? Everyone loves a monkey...Yeah. You can't get enough of it. Who isn't a sucker for a little monkey wearing pants? Trousers."
Actress Rebel Wilson even sacrificed being camera ready to pose for photos with Crystal standing on her shoulder.

"Did anybody else pose with the monkey? Maybe I am the bravest one or I don't care. I'm like, 'Yeah, a monkey can sit on my head for five minutes. No worries. It's not like this hairstyle took two hours to perfect. It is fine."
Not all her co-stars have such chemistry however.
Ben Stiller was quick to set the record straight on Crystal's diva-like antics.

"Well, first of all, Dexter is really a woman. I want to just break that news, ok? He's a transgender monkey named Crystal and he has a little bit of an attitude to tell you the truth. I know you're supposed to say nice things about everybody in these things but really he is a bit of a diva. He definitely needs to have like when you're doing a scene with him he has to have all of his eye lines cleared. Nobody can be on the set. He demands that you leave the trailer before he comes to set. He has to be the last person on set. And I was saying earlier that ever since he saw 'Planet of the Apes' he's changed. He just seems to have a sense of entitlement."

Crystal the monkey is 20-years-old and is a veteran animal actor.
She has appeared in TV shows including "Malcom in the Middle" and "The Big Bang Theory". She also had roles in movies including "American Pie", "Dr. Dolittle", ""The Hangover Part II" and "We Bought a Zoo".
