The 16th Peking University Guanghua New Year Forum was held at Peking University on December 21th. Top economists and businessmen of China attended and gave out some thorough thoughts and suggestions on the development and reform of this country. Let's follow our reporter Chi Huiguang to find out more. Reporter: With the theme of "China Moving Forward: Cultural and Economic Transformation", the 16th Peking University Guanghua New Year Forum was held at Khoo Teck Puat Gymnasium in the Yan Garden. Professor Li Yining, honorary president of Guanghua School of Management of Peking University, one of the most highly regarded economists in China, and Jin Liqun, secretry-general of the multilateral temporary secretariat of Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank, former vice finance minister gave the keynote speeches. Li Yining said, in the dual labor market, generally speaking, workers seldom have the chance to transfer from undesirable careers to ones that are satisfactory. It's easier for the white-collar workers to become the middle class than the blue-collars. He gave out the method of melting the differences between them, by strengthening the professional technical education, to ensure the social vertical flow channel unblocked. "The growth of the blue-collar workers tells us that in a both equal and efficient society, equity and efficiency can be realized at the same time. There's no dilemma of trade-off between them. Middle class is a concept defined not only by income level, but also by cultural quality. The blue-collar middle class will become a group with higher and higher cultural and moral attainment. And they will become the dominant force together with the white-collar middle class." Jin Liqun said, there are two key issues in China now. One is deepening the reform of economic system. The other is combatting corruption. "I had been working in the government for 30 years. I have a profound understanding that the key point of the next round of revolution in China is that whether the government can transform the functions. It's not too hard actually. However, it's like a doctor operates surgery on his own body. Technically speaking, it isn't difficult. But it's really hard to carry out." In the following summit dialogues, Cai Hongbin, Dean of Guanghua School of Management explained that cultural development is lagging behind the growth of the Chinese economy. News of fighting on airplanes recently showed that for some of Chinese people, their behavior didn't improve together with the rapid progress of living condition. So during the economic growth in the future, we should promote efficiency, by developing integrity and innovation, the sense of tolerance and responsibility and reduce the institutional cost. Pan Shiyi, president of SOHO China, said in the dialogues that the economic transformation would turn out to be some large platforms, surrounded by lots of small and medium-sized enterprises. "The vitality of the platforms is equity. While for all the surrounding SMEs, what is their vitality? It is innovation." Liu Qiangdong, CEO of Jingdong Group, Huang Kexing, president of Tsingtao Beer and some doctors and professors from law and philosophy schools of Peking University also attended the submit dialogues of the forum.
