介绍:
From "Little Red Riding Hood", "Jack and the Beanstalk" to "Rapunzel" and "Cinderella", people are familiar with those Grimm fairy tales. But have you ever thought about intertwining the plots of all these stories? Well, for this year's Christmas, five-time Tony Award nominee Rob Marshall brings the excitements and thriller of the Grimm fairy tales to his latest fantasy drama: Into the Woods. Let's go to Liu Xiangwei for more. Reporter: Viewers, please beware that "Into the Woods" is not your typical fairy tale. Adapted from namesake Broadway production, this musical movie is a fantasy genre crossover set in an alternate world of various Grimm fairy tales. Actress Christine Baranski, who plays Cinderella's stepmother, explains. "you know we expect fairy tales to have happy endings, I think this particular piece shows us the other, the grim side of the Grimm's Fairy Tales, which is you cannot find your depth as a human being without going through a dark place." Centering on a childless couple, who set out to end a curse placed on them by a vengeful witch, "Into the Woods" starts as a lively irreverent fantasy musical and eventually becomes a meaningful tale about responsibility. Director Rob Marshall, who is well-known for the award-winning comedy Chicago, elaborates on the message of the movie. "Oh I think it's a hopeful piece. I like that it very much explores something more real and explores what happens after happily ever after, because that's real life. And I think for children of today this is very much for the children of the 21st century -- who are dealing with a much more fragile and complicated world than certainly when I was growing up -- and I think it's helpful to have something a little bit more real, so that they can understand how to deal with loss, for instance, which it deals with, and how you move forward with up." Actor Chris Pine, who plays the prince to Anna Kendrick's Cinderella, even found a Zen-like peace in the story's themes. "This film, the story, wonderfully incorporates all of these things -- it's the cycle of life. It is just life, life is multi-faceted, and it is devastation, there is death, there is life, there is hope, there's misery, there's all of these things, and I think to have that conversation with children, to invite them in to what is humanity and life, is a wonderful thing. Instead of saying, no, a princess looks like this and she will end up with this and life should go this way, there is no should. It is. And I think there's something, I don't know, quite of Zen and wonderful and beautiful about it." Starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, and Johnny Depp, "Into the Woods" opens in North American theatres on December 25 and will release worldwide from January 2015.
