介绍:
Kenny G has long been regarded as only a "smooth jazz" or adult contemporary musician. But, his new bossa nova album "Brazilian Nights," is a mixture of traditional jazz between the likes of Stan Getz and Miles Davis. He says it shouldn't be shunned by radio programmers. (SB1, Kenny G, English) "If they don't play this, it's only because they must not like me and what they think I stand for. Because I played these songs – this is traditional jazz. It's played very authentic and I did my homework. If they listen and go 'Ugh,' then they're not listening to it. They're just looking at my face and going 'ugh,' which is fine." The album features the 58-year-old musician performing recognizable bossa nova tunes like "Corcovado" and "Girl From Ipanema" along with several of his own compositions including "Bossa Real." Kenny G says he listens to old jazz albums but isn't the type of artist who need to travel to Brazil to hear the music in person in order to craft his own version. (SB2, Kenny G, English) "I'm pretty good in my little laboratory here. My first records, I just did everything. I played on my keyboard – I played all the parts. I played the bass parts, the drum sequence, you would sample it and trigger from the keyboard. So I played everything. I didn't really need to be influenced. And I really still don't do a lot of listening. I might listen to the old-school jazz guys because that's good for technique and I practice things like that a lot. But when it comes to writing and playing my music, I just kind of lock my door." The biggest-selling instrumental artist in modern music, Kenny G has his eyes on another more traditional jazz recording down the line. (SB3, Kenny G, English) "I love classical music. I love bossa nova. So I want to do records like that. I want to do another Christmas record. Is there anything else I want to do at this point? Not sure. Actually I would like to do a real hard-core jazz record. Not fast but real complicated changes." Kenny "Brazilian Nights," his 14th studio album, is set to be released later this month. For Studio plus, I'm Zhang Wan.
