介绍:
Joe Wong had been trained as a biochemist. But after eight years of lab research in the United States, he says he found that within the Chinese-American community, there were plenty of excellent scientists. However, in American popular culture, the Chinese seemed voiceless. Since he has a long-term, firm interest in comedy, Joe Wong wanted to try his luck and began to perform his comedy at the All Asia Bar in Boston in 2001. He has attracted nationwide attention since he appeared on the Late Show with talk show host David Letterman in April 2009. His multiple appearances on TV later boosted his reputation. Since 2013, he moved back to Beijing, and hosted programs on China Central Television. But obviously he wants more than that. On February 23rd and 24th this year, Joe Wong will present his talk show in Chinese at the theatre of the Cultural Palace of Nationalities in Beijing. At a promotional press conference held recently in Beijing, Joe Wong has revealed a highlighted topic of his show. "Spending the Spring Festival in the US, I used to retain the habit like burning firecrackers. However within minutes of lighting the firework in the backyard of my house, police came to me telling me the activity of lighting firecrackers is illegal. It's beyond my understanding that why private ownership of guns is legal while lighting firecrackers is illegal in the US. I find it's very funny to elaborate on the misunderstandings resulted from cultural clashes." In fact, the comedian's nationwide show tour in China has already kicked off, from outside Beijing. And this tour will continue to take him to ten Chinese cities, including Nanjing, Hefei, Tianjin, Chengdu and Chongqing. Jiang Kun is a famous crosstalk master in China. A friend of Joe Wong, he says he is a fan of talk show too, and hopes to gain inspirations from it by making a comparison. "I have watched their talk show performances many times. Some of these artists are good at building up a character. When I meet them in person, I find there is no difference between them and the character they build up. The talk show may let audience members feel their character speaks to them. Crosstalk is China's traditional performing art and as I'm in this field, I think Huang Xi's talk show may offer some insights into the development of Chinese comedy." This Chinese American comedian's talk show tour is titled "Yu-Nin-Shuo-Dong-Dao-Xi" (与您说东道西) or "Chatter on a variety of things from East to West" in English. Can you appreciate the charm of this comedian who even performed before US Vice President Joe Biden? Anyway, you will get your own judgment as soon as you check his live Chinese talk show at the theatre during Spring Festival holidays. For CRI, I'm Xu Fei.
