The movie, Young For You or Nian-Shao-Qing-Kuang in Chinese, is about how a group of college students celebrate on the day before their graduation.
By telling their love stories, friendship as well as their goals upon graduation, the movie is intended to convey a theory: "While we are still young, let us go crazy!"
Zong Shan is executive producer of the film. She explains how she and her team discovered a unique perspective to be depicted in Young For You.
"Nowadays, Chinese films that touches on the subject of youth, like Fleet of Time and My Old Classmate, have usually taken audiences into a bit of sad reminiscence. I want my movie to distinguish from other youths' films: it is still about young college graduates, but they've never sunk themselves into the old memories, but look ahead into the future. They would rather celebrate their college graduation. In fact, the post-90s generations are still in the best time of their life and they could afford to throw away their time."
Having played a 17-year-old high school girl in "You Are the Apple of My Eye" when she was actually 28-year-old, Taiwan singer-actress Michelle Chen would return to her purely nice college girl image via this movie. Meanwhile she and Zheng Kai portray a pair of lovers.
On the other hand, Chinese actor Zheng Kai has attracted public attention for starring in films like "So Young" directed by Zhao Wei and Fleet of Time directed by Zhang Yibai. The remaining casts are all young and rising stars, who stood out from those box-office success films.
If just letting the young cast repeat what they had portrayed in previous movies, it would apparently, hardly arouse interest from audiences.
The executive producer believes Young For You may bring audiences pleasant surprises.
"My movie comprises of three stories, which are portrayed by three pairs of young actors and actresses, including Bao Bei'er, Sun Jian, Michelle Chen and Zheng Kai. I felt they've all made breakthroughs in this film, mainly because the characters they portray are all college students that are about to graduate rather than those who had graduated long before and are recalling their old days. I think the film's young actors and actresses just naturally fit into their roles."
Directed by Dai Rui, the film also stars actor Sun Jian, Bao Bei'er and also actress Tang Yixin, who became widely known for her role as a concubine of the emperor in TV drama, The Legend of Zhen Huan.
Young For You is scheduled to hit big screens on April 30th.
