Fans of "Divergent" already know that Shailene Woodley and Theo James' characters live in what remains of a futuristic Chicago, where a dystopian society is split into factions according to traits and talents.
As "divergents," Tris and Four can't be neatly classified and are therefore considered dangerous by the ruling elite.
"Insurgent" see the pair as fugitives, looking for allies and trying to uncover the secret that Tris' parents died to protect.
On the red carpet surrounded by hoards of fans, Woodley and James enjoyed the buzz around them.
Woodley joked.
"Everyone's always very generous and very kind. I haven't really ever had a bad experience, knock on metal."
James said.
"I mean it goes in tides. There's a bit more awareness because obviously the adverts are out, the movie's coming out and then you do stuff in between then it dies down a little bit."
The actor continued saying it was "nice" that people are responding to the film and after seeing the finished edit a couple of days ago he summed up that "they really have taken it to a very different place in all the best possible ways."
Getting back into character was somewhat of a challenge for Woodley.
"It wasn't as easy as I had anticipated simply because I had progressed in my own life for a year and to regress back into Tris's mindset, which is different than I thought it would be."
But working with a new cast made it all worth while.
Academy Award-winner Octavia Spencer joins the franchise as Amity leader, Johanna Reyes. And Naomi Watts plays Evelyn, Four's mother.
It's not every day Naomi Watts plays your mother or "hot mama" according to James.
"No, hot mama. Yeah good, very good. She's lovely and really good with this part. She's very, she adds something very specific to it because she has a very ethereal, gentle quality."
Woodley found the new pair just as lovely even though their parts only took a few days to shoot.
"It was wonderful. I mean Naomi and Octavia only worked a few days but they brought such a unique flair to their characters and really had a strong understanding of these women that they wanted to create. So just to react off of them was really lovely."
Roth who penned the Divergent trilogy, gave fans a little bit of info on her new series of books which she hopes will be released in 2017.
"I wish I could say more but really it's going to be two books, hopefully out in 2017. It's kind of Star Wars-esque. It's about a young man who unites with someone who's supposed to be his enemy so that he can get revenge. That's all I can say right now."
Insurgent opens in the UK on March 19 and in China and the U.S. on March 20.
