On Our Way Home or Zuo 88 Luo Che Hui Jia (坐88路车回家) tells a story on a driver of Bus 88, Huang Yuanshuai, who had to give up the pursuit of his dream career in order to earn a living for his three nieces after his elder brother died in an accident.
In Huang's years of ups and downs, he encounters his Miss right, a single "left-over woman" and then they came together in raising his brother's children and another orphan they adopted later on.
Director Li Lu says he is fascinated about directing a TV drama series that combines elements of humor, passion and above all, positive energy.
"This TV drama is heartwarming, and continues to touch audience members' heart following another TV drama series of mine, "Brothers' Happiness" or Lao-Da-De Xing-Fu ("老大的幸福"). I'm good at developing TV dramas from such a thought-provoking subject. This is a touching story about sacrifice. Zhang Bo acts a foster father to his three nephews and niece after his elder brother and the children's father lost his life in an accident. I'm very much satisfied with Zhang Bo and Liu Weiwei's performances in this TV drama series."
Actress Liu Weiwei, who is known for her role as Shen Suixin, in a 2007-family drama series, Dreams Link, or You Jian Yi Lian You Meng in Chinese ("又见一帘幽梦"), acts in the leading role Gao Shan as a cradle snatcher in this older woman-younger man love story.
"Almost all think she is a typical proud and cool girl. On the first day when I had a screen test, I felt my dislike of this character and this feeling is even strongly echoed by a script supervisor in the shooting team, who said he disliked Gao Shan because of her bad temper and unfriendliness after he read the screenplay. And during the filming, I was trying to soften this character by playing with kids laughing loudly. Then the director asked me to keep a straight face back again in conformity with the screenplay."
Before acting in this drama, actor Zhang Bo has worked opposite many Chinese actresses who are all more experienced and famous than him, like Song Jia and Xu Fan.
Compared with being younger than his girl friend in this TV drama, another challenge he faced is that he needs to step into a role as a young father. Zhang Bo explains.
"This is unprecedented experience as an actor since I know little how to get along with kids. I had also discussed with Liu Weiwei in hope to get her advices on playing intimately with kids and living with four children, for I think I'm still childish and immature. Another great difficulty I've encountered in filming is that the director demanding me cry in 20 different ways since the character I portray in this drama is oftentimes emotionally vulnerable."
This TV series is said to vividly portray all sorts of feelings from being a lonely parent who works hard to raise and teach kids and it also portrays the anxiety of growing up in 1980s Chinese society.
The touching, warm and carnival-like TV drama will be a prime time show at night in Shandong and Liaoning satellite TVs starting from May 5th.
For Studio Plus, I'm Zhang Wan.
