Between 1967 and 1972, St. Louis was home to a multidisciplinary arts collective known as the Black Artists Group or BAG. Not unlike its contemporary AACM in Chicago, local African American experimentalists, with an even wider background ranging from theater, visual arts, dance, poetry, film, to free jazz, were educated and introduced from here. We'll spin the classics of Julius Hemphill, Oliver Lake and Human Arts Ensemble, while readdressing this important piece of history on "Community Jazz".
