Virgin Australia, the nation's second largest airline, said the passenger had been drunk and he tried to enter the cockpit of the Boeing 737, prompting the pilot to send a distress signal to airport authorities. The flight from Brisbane was boarded by Indonesian troops on landing after reports that it had been hijacked. An Indonesian air force spokesman said all passengers were unharmed. Ukraine tense as Russia launches military drills, activists die in clashes Tensions in Ukraine have escalated sharply, with Russia embarking on new military drills near the border. It comes after Ukrainian forces said they killed five pro-Russian militants as they closed in on the separatists' military stronghold in the east. The offensive amounts to the first time Kiev's troops have used lethal force to recapture territory from the pro-Russians, who have seized swaths of eastern Ukraine since early April. Six schoolboys drown in SW China lake Six schoolboys have drowned in a lake in southwest China's Yunnan Province while touring on a deserted boat. Police in Tonghai County say the boat leaked and then capsized in the middle of the Qilu Lake. Seven boys on board fell into the water. Only one was found alive and was sent to hospital. Doctors said his conditions were stable. All six bodies have been retrieved. Report denounces 17 Hong Kong officials for misconduct in maritime accident Authorities in Hong Kong have released a report denouncing 17 government workers for misconduct in a major maritime accident in 2012 that killed 39 people.
