Taliban claim deadly attack on Karachi airport
The Pakistani Taliban say they were behind an attack at the country's busiest airport that killed at least 28 people, including 10 militants.
The raid began late on Sunday at Karachi international airport and continued into Monday morning.
The victims are said to be mostly security guards from the Airport Security Force but also airline workers. At least 14 people were wounded.
The attack further undermines Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's attempt at initiating peace talks with the Taliban.
India to further develop strategic partnership with China: president
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has pledged to continue to develop relations of strategic partnership with China.
In his first address to the joint session of India's new Parliament, the Indian president first named China as the country which India will develop close ties.
He also said India will further develop ties with Japan, Russia and the United States.
Mukherjee made the remarks as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is in India for a visit.
Search for 'drowned' India students in Himachal Pradesh
Staying in India, rescuers have been searching for 20 students and a professor who were swept away by waters released from a power project dam.
The group had reportedly left a bus to take photographs when the surge occurred in the mountainous northern state of Himachal Pradesh.
Four bodies have been recovered.
Libya court rules new PM election unconstitutional
Libya's Supreme Court has ruled that the election of new prime minister Ahmed Maitiq was " unconstitutional."
The court says it noticed a pack of law violations committed by the interim parliament.
Libya is witnessing a political deadlock due to the power struggle between the acting prime minister Abdullah Thinni and his newly-elected successor Maitiq.
Maitiq was sworn in as prime minister last month but Thinni has refused to hand over power.
Israeli parliament to elect president
The race to succeed Shimon Peres as Israel's head of state is coming to an end, with five candidates facing off in parliament this week to become the country's next president.
Lawmakers in the 120-member Knesset are to hold a secret ballot on Tuesday.
The Israeli presidency is a largely ceremonial office.
Peres, a former prime minister and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, replaced disgraced Moshe Katsav, who was forced to leave office in 2007 to face sex-crimes allegations. He was later convicted of rape.
Death toll rises to 292 in S.Korean ferry disaster
The death toll from the deadly sinking of a South Korean ferry two months ago has risen to 292, with one more body retrieved overnight.
The ferry Sewol capsized and sank off the southwest island of Jindo on April 16, leaving 304 people dead or missing, most of them teenage students from a high school near Seoul.
Twelve of them are still unaccounted for as of Monday.
Chinese navy to join 2014 RIMPAC naval drill
The Chinese navy says it will participate in the Rim of the Pacific multinational naval exercises for the first time this year.
The US-led RIMPAC drill is the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise.
China is sending four ships, two vessel-carried helicopters, a special battle force and a diving force for the drill later this month.
This year, the RIMPAC will involve 47 surface ships, six submarines, over 200 aircraft, and 25,000 troops from 23 countries.
It consists of two episodes, near Hawaii and California respectively. China will partake in the first episode.
China, U.S. hold new talks on investment treaty
China and the United States are holding their 13th round of negotiations over an investment treaty.
China's Commerce Ministry says the five-day negotiations in Beijing will step up discussions about core issues of the texts the treaty.
Talks over the treaty began in 2008, with two rounds already held this year.
The ministry says the negotiations are significant in promoting opening up of bilateral investment fields and maintaining healthy Sino-US economic and trading relations.
Explosion rips through refinery in east China
An explosion has ripped through an oil refinery and triggered a fire in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing.
There are no immediate reports on casualties.
The local firefighting department says three of eight crude oil tanks at the refinery are on fire after the explosion.
About 10 fire brigades are on site to battle the blaze.
Eight police suspected in gambling blast
Eight Chinese police officers are being investigated over suspicion of harboring a gambling den in the southwestern province of Guizhou.
The gambling site in Kaili City was exposed when an explosion killed 15 people there in January.
Most victims were gamblers.
The officers under investigation include two deputy police chiefs of Kaili.
Sao Paulo metro strike to continue
Metro workers in Brazil's largest city, Sao Paulo, have voted to remain on strike for an indefinite period despite an earlier ruling by a labor court calling on them to return to work.
The court said that the unions had abused their powers.
The governor of Sao Paulo state said he would dismiss employees who didn't come to work on Monday.
The dispute comes as the city prepares to host the opening match of the World Cup on Thursday.
