China calls for stronger action to fight terrorism
The Chinese government is calling on the international community to come up with new thinking in its response to terrorism.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has made the call during a UN Security Council summit on terrorism in New York, where the group adopted a binding resolution on fighting the Islamic State.
The US-drafted resolution is requiring all UN member states to prosecute people who take part, or even attempt to take part, in militant training or help to finance such activities.
Beyond this, Wang Yi is also calling on Internet companies and operators to self-regulate to stop the use of social media to spread extremist ideas and videos showing violence and terror.
China opposes EU interference in judicial independence
The Chinese government is taking issue with new comments from the European Union over the jailing of a Uyghur separatist.
The Chinese Mission to the EU says it's "strongly dissatisfied" with the EU's criticism of the life-sentence handed to Ilham Tohti.
The European Union has issued a statement, calling for Tohti's immediate and unconditional release, describing him as a "respected academic."
The Chinese government has countered, noting Tohti is a convicted criminal, convicted of championing violence, instigating ethnic hatred and stirring up ethnic confrontations.
Tohti was convicted and sentenced this week to life in prision for the posts he wrote on his pro-Uyghur blog, which the courts say championed violence and separatism.
China, U.S. vow to enhance cooperation in global response to climate change
Chinese and U.S. leaders are promising to work together to create a global response to climate change.
The pledge has been made as part of a meeting between Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli and U.S. President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the now-concluded UN climate summit in New York.
Zhang says China hopes their cooperation with the US on climate change can be one of the highlights of their shared plan to build a new model for major-country relations.
For his part, Obama says United States and China, the world's two biggest carbon emitters, shoulder special responsibilities in the global response to climate change.
China, U.S. to hold 15th annual defense talks
The Chinese and US militaries have begun preparations for their annual meeting next month in Washington.
The Chinese side is going to chaired by the deputy Chief of the PLA's General Staff, Wang Guanzhong.
The US side is going to be led by US Under Secretary of Defense Christine Wormuth.
And the strategic planning departments of the two militaries will hold their first dialogue during the talks.
The previous round of talks were held in Beijing.
U.S., Japan make no progress in TPP trade talks
US officials admit they've made little progress in negotiations with Japan in bilateral talks in pushing forward the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations.
The US Trade Representative office says this past weekend's working level discussions were unable to make any further progress major outstanding issues.
The United States has been pressing the Japanese side to open up agricutural imports for things like rice, beef, pork and dairy products.
Japan has insisted on keeping import duties in place for those products.
Japan's closely-guarded agriculture sector has been a key sticking point for TPP negotiations since they first began in 2005.
DHL launches direct railway service from Suzhou to Europe
Global delivery firm DHL has launched a new rail-delivery service to Europe.
Freight and other packages are now able to be moved from the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou to DHL's European hub in Poland.
From there, so-called 'last-mile' deliveries will be taken by train or truck anywhere in Europe.
DHL says it will take around 2-weeks for deliveries to make it from China to Europe.
However, the new rail service is one-sixth the cost of airfreight, and takes half as long as shipping an item or goods via the ocean to Europe.

A number of new iPhone 6 Plus users have taken to Facebook and Twitter to complain their phones are bending when they're in their back pockets.
So far Apple has yet to respond to the concerns being posed by iPhone 6 Plus users.
OCA announces 2nd doping case at Incheon Asiad
The Olympic Council of Asia has officially confirmed a 2nd doping case at the Asian Games in South Korea.
Soft tennis player V.I. Sophany of Cambodia has been disqualified from the competition after her urine sample was found containing sibutramine, a banned substance.
Sophany's disqualification follows on the heels of a Tajak football player also testing positive for a banned substance.
Asian Games officials have promised a wide-ranging series of post-event and random screenings for doping.
