China, Japan reach four-point agreement on ties
China and Japan have reached a four-point agreement-in-principle on bilateral relations.
China's Foreign Ministry announced that the consensus was reached after a meeting on Friday between State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Japan's visiting National Security Advisor Shotaro Yachi.
First, the two sides affirmed that they will follow the principles and spirit of the four political documents between the two countries and continue to develop the China-Japan strategic relationship of mutual benefit.
Second, the two sides have reached some agreement on overcoming "political obstacles" in bilateral relations in the spirit of "facing history squarely and looking forward to the future."
Third, the two sides have acknowledged that "different positions exist between them" regarding the tensions which have emerged in recent years over the Diaoyu Islands and some waters in the East China Sea, and agreed to prevent further aggravation of the situation through dialogue and consultation.
Fourth, the two sides have agreed to gradually resume political, diplomatic and security dialogue through various multilateral and bilateral channels and to make efforts to build political trust.
FM spokesman responds to reports of China-Japan leaders' meeting at APEC
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang is calling on the Japanese government to create an "enabling environment" regarding contact between leaders of the two countries.
Qin made the remarks when taking a question on Japanese reports saying that the leaders will meet during the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Beijing slated for Monday and Tuesday.
He said that China's stance has been very clear on the issue of a China-Japan leaders' meeting.
He said China hopes that the Japanese side can continue to make efforts to meet China halfway and take concrete action to improve bilateral ties.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's interview ahead of the APEC meetings
Russian President Vladimir Putin says that the ongoing APEC meetings will reflect mutual respects and interests among member countries.
Putin made the remarks while being interviewed by Chinese media.
He says Russia is actively participating in APEC activities, to promote regional integration and national development.
When commenting on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Russian president says that the TPP is just another architecture of cooperation that the U.S. would benefit from.
He notes that "the multilateral system of economic relations in the Asia Pacific Region can only be strong if the interests of all states of the region are taken into account".
He also acknowledges the role of China in this year's APEC.
He says China, as the host, has offered "a huge package of initiatives" that would push structural reforms and development in the region.
Xi, Putin to "synchronize time" during APEC meetings: ambassador
The Russian Ambassador to China says Chinese and Russian leaders will coordinate their positions on key issues during the APEC meetings.
Andrey Denisov says leaders of the two countries will "synchronize time" , referring to coordinating their positions, on important topics related to Russia-China relations and international affairs.
The ambassador adds the interaction between the Silk Road Economic Belt masterminded by China and the Eurasia transport and logistics passageway being built by Russia will also do good for east Russia development.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will soon arrive in Beijing to attend the APEC informal leaders meeting.
Mexico cancels Chinese bullet train deal
Mexico has abruptly withdrawn a multi-billion-dollar deal with a Chinese-led consortium to build the country's first bullet train after concerns were raised about the bidding process.
The government awarded the 3.75 billion dollar contract to the China Railway Construction Corp. and four Mexican partners on Monday after the group had been the only one to submit a bid.
But AFP quotes the Mexican Transport Ministeras saying President Enrique Pena Nieto scrapped the deal to avoid "any doubts about the legitimacy and transparency" of the bidding process.
The Ministry said more time will be allotted to encourage more train-makers to submit bids.
China urges faster regional economic integration, FTAAP vision
Chinese Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng says that joint efforts should be made to speed up the economic integration process of the Asia-Pacific region, with the FTA Asia-Pacific as a long-term vision.
Gao made the remarks at the APEC Ministerial Meeting on Friday.
He added the Asia-Pacific economy is playing a critical role in the world, serving as the growth engine of the global economy, and APEC has made important contributions to trade and investment liberalization, and to closer economic and technological cooperation among member economies.
Also at the opening of the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the Asia-Pacific Region should take the lead in global economic growth.
China, ROK to accelerate FTA talks
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has met his South Korean counterpart Yun Byung-se, agreeing to promote an early conclusion of bilateral free trade agreement negotiations.
Wang says the two countries should be dedicated to an early conclusion of the negotiations.
Yun, who is in Beijing for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings, says his country is willing to work together with China and step up efforts in promoting the construction of the bilateral free trade zone.
The two ministers also exchanged views over the Korean Peninsula issue.
