China to expand input to fight HIV: Premier Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is promising to increase the government's commitment toward the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS. At the same time, he says China wants to cooperate with other countries in helping combat HIV. The comments have been made ahead of World AIDS Day today. Latest figures suggest the number of people living with HIV/AIDS in China had hit nearly half a million as of the end of October. The Chinese premier says more needs to be done to strengthen HIV screening, with a focus on high risk groups. The government is also working to ensure HIV-positive patients have access to equal employment and medical treatment. Taiwan administration resigns en masse after election defeat In an act of solidarity for the incumbent party's defeat in the local Taiwan elections on Saturday, all officials from the Taiwan administrative authority have resigned on Monday. The officials, led by chief administrator Jiang Yi-huah who announced his resignation Saturday evening, said they wanted to take responsibility for their party's performance at the polls. Jiang urged all department heads to remain in their posts until replacements were found. According to the island's regulation, Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou will soon nominate a new chief administrator and reshuffle the administrative agency. Jiang was appointed chief administrator in February, 2013. China's HK gov't strongly condemns illegal acts of violent radicals The Hong Kong government has strongly condemned the illegal acts of violent radicals. The government said the acts of the protesters taking part in unlawful assemblies such as organizing the storming of police cordon lines and blockading access to the Central Government Offices or CGO and Lung Wo Road showed blatant disregard for the law and endangered public safety. The government strongly condemned the student groups for planning illegal assemblies and inciting protesters to charge towards the CGO repeatedly. The Hong Kong government headquarters has resumed operation after suspension earlier today due to overnight disruptions caused by protestors from the so-called Occupy Central movement. Blast rips through chemical warehouses in E China; casualties unknown A blast has ripped through several chemical warehouses in east China's Wenzhou City, with casualties unknown. The explosion happened at around 2 p.m. Monday in a chemical market on Niushanbei Road. The warehouses are mostly used for storing chemicals. Fire fighters are still battling the fire. China's official manufacturing PMI wanes Official figures released today show China's manufacturing sector has moderated slightly in November, suggesting business sentiment remains subdued as economic growth slows. The manufacturing purchasing manager's index, a key measure of factory activity in China, has come in at 50.3 in November. This is down from the 50.8 reading in October. Any reading above 50 still indicates expansion. Israeli soldier kills knife-wielding Palestinian woman in Hebron A Palestinian woman has been shot dead after she stabbed an Israeli soldier in the southern West Bank city of Hebron. Reports say that the Israeli military opened fire at the woman and shot her dead, after she stabbed an Israeli soldier at Gush Itzion settlement in Hebron. The Israeli soldier was slightly injured. More than 11 Israelis have died in militant attacks in recent months in Jerusalem, as tensions threaten to spill across Arab communities throughout Israel. South Korean Fishing Boats Sunk, at least one dead A South Korean fishing boat with 62 people onboard has reportedly sunk off Russia's Far East coast. So far, the accident has caused at least one death, 53 others reported missing. Russia media says that all people on board are Korean. Currently, Russian authorities have sent out their "Caroline – 77" and other three fishing boats around the waters to carry out the rescue work. Meanwhile, several surviving Korean fishermen have been evacuated from the boat. Two Koreas, Russia launch tripartite cooperation on transport project South Korea, North Korea and Russia have launched a tripartite cooperative venture with the test-run of a coal transport project using the North Korea-Russia railway and port. Seoul's unification ministry says about 40,500 tons of flaming coal were test-transported by sea from North Korea's port city of Rajin to South Korea's southern port city of Pohang over the weekend. Before heading for Pohang, the Russian coal was transported via the 54-kilometer railway from Russian border city of Khasan to the Rajin port. The project was launched in 2007 to renovate the railway and modernize the North Korean port as part of efforts to develop city of Rajin as a major shipping port in Northeast Asia. Singapore to adopt Euro VI Emission Standards for Petrol Vehicles in 2017 Singapore will adopt the Euro VI emission standards starting from September 2017 for petrol vehicles. The new regulation will further reduce nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and fine particulate emissions, in particular the PM 2.5 from vehicular emissions. Euro VI is the latest engine emission standard set by the EU. The EU's vehicular emission standards impose strict rules on tailpipe gas emissions for new vehicles sold in EU member states. They have also been progressively implemented in Singapore and other countries. Currently, the standard for petrol vehicles in Singapore is Euro IV.
