China urges Myanmar to protect Chinese nationals
The Chinese government is calling on authorities in Myanmar to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in that country amid reports that hundreds of Chinese nationals have become trapped by heavy fighting in northern Myanmar.
A number of Chinese citizens have also been detained by authorities in Myanmar.
The Chinese embassy in Myanmar has sent personnel to visit those people and provide necessary assistance to them.
Hundreds of Chinese citizens do cross-border business in Myanmar, which borders the province of Yunnan.
Heavy fighting erupted in northern Myanmar on Thursday after Kachin rebels ambushed a convoy carrying a regional minister.
China Nabs 49 Duty Criminals in Three Months
Chinese prosecutors say they've managed to round-up nearly 50 officials who fled China with government money during the final quarter of last year.
Four of the suspects are accused of stealing more than 10-million yuan, or more than 1.5 million US dollars.
3 of them have been at large for more than 10-years.
One official with the National Tax Bureau has been repatriated with funds worth around 35 million yuan.
China rejects cyber-espionage allegations
The Chinese government is rebuffing allegations the country's spies stole key information connected to the F-35 Lightening II fighter jet.
China's foreign ministry is denying the accusation, noting China has been the victim of cyber attacks for years.
The comments follow a report citing documents disclosed by former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden.
The report in a German magazine is quoting Snowden as saying Chinese cyber spies stole "huge volumes" of sensitive military information connected to the US fighter jet.
China to ease restrictions on foreign investment
The Chinese government is moving to tweak its foreign investment laws in an attempt to ease restrictions on foreign investors.
The Ministry of Commerce says overseas companies will no longer be approved on a case-by-case basis, but be screened by a "negative list."
Under the changes, foreign companies will not be considered foreign if they are controlled by Chinese investors.
The "negative list" for foreign investment was introduced in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone in Shanghai in 2013.
Eric Chu takes office as KMT chairman
Taiwan's New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu has taken office as chairman of the ruling Kuomintang.
In his inaugural speech, Chu says the peaceful development and mutually beneficial principles should be honored, and that cross-Strait relations should proceed with an eye to stability and progress.
Chu was elected KMT chairman in an uncontested election on Saturday.
China Stocks Dive More Than 7 Percent Monday
The Chinese A-share market saw a major sell-off today, tumbling nearly 8-percent.
Declines in brokerage firms and commercial banks pushed the market down.
Most of the brokerage shares on the A-Share market closed down by the daily trading limit of 10 percent.
The 7.7-percent decline in Shanghai comes on the heels of a late-Friday announcement by China's securities regulator that a dozen brokerage firms have had their margin-trading licenses suspended for three-months for violating trading rules.

The two-time Grand Slam winner announced Monday that she is expecting her first child.
Li says her and husband Jiang Shan's first child is due this summer.
The 32-year-old retired during last year's China Open in October.
North Korea reasserts its proposal in the U.S-N Korea talk in Singapore
North Korea is calling on the US to discontinue its joint military drills with South Korea.
The call comes as talks between US and North Korean representatives take place in Singapore.
The bilateral meetings are the latest attempt by Washington to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea has long-insisted the joint military drills are a prelude to war.
The US and South Korea both insist the drills are strictly defensive in nature.
Iran Nuclear Talks will Open Again Next Month
Iran and the P5+1 grouping have announced plans for a new round of nuclear talks after making limited progress in negotiations in Geneva over the weekend.
The talks come just weeks before a March deadline for a political agreement.
A comprehensive agreement is supposed to be worked out by the end of June.
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, plus Germany, have been working on finalizing a new nuclear deal for over a year since reaching an interim accord in November 2013.
The last deadline, which was missed, saw both sides extend negotiations into this year.
New Year's First EU-bound Cargo Train Leaves Chengdu
The first high-speed train of the year carrying cargo from Sichuan's capital, Chengdu, to Europe is on its way.
The train will take 12 days to reach Europe.
It's the fastest land-based freight service between China and Europe.
Shipping cargo via the link is around 25-percent cheaper than air cargo.
The train is also 4-days quicker than shipping cargo on the sea.
Around 600-million-US dollars' worth of cargo has been transported on the line both ways since it was opened back in April.
China's Inner Mongolia Builds National Desert Park
Construction of a national desert park has begun in Inner Mongolia.
The park is located in the Ulan Buh Desert, the eighth largest in China.
It's slated to be 350-hectares in size.
Officials expect it to be open by 2032.
Local authorities are hoping the park will help promote knowledge of the desert ecosystem.
