East China Fair shows sluggish trade growth prospects A just-concluded annual trade fair in Shanghai seems to illustrate the troubles facing the Chinese economy. The East China Fair attracted over 21-thousand visitors over five days, ending on Thursday. The number is down more than one percent compared to last year. The value of all deals signed at the fair exceeded 2.5 billion US dollars, but that number represents a drop of 7 percent compared to last year's event. Japanese customers are the driving force behind the fair, accounting for 42 percent of all foreign visitors, but deals among that crowd declined sharply because of the rapidly declining value of the yen.
