China launches WTO litigation over EU poultry meat tariff quota dispute China has launched a litigation with the World Trade Organization over a dispute with the European Union. The complaint involves customs quotas on poultry. At issue is a treaty the EU has had with Brazil and Thailand since March of 2013. The treaty gives those two countries 96-percent of the quota for low-tariff imports of poultry, while China and other countries compete for only 4 percent of the quota for low-tariff poultry products. China, Vietnam pledge further maritime cooperation Leaders from China and Vietnam are promising stronger maritime ties. The pledge has been made at a meeting between Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, in Beijing. Among the proposals put forward by Li Keqiang, joint inspections with Vietnam in the waters at the mouth of the Beibu Gulf which have not been completely deliniated. Belarus to expand trade and economic ties with China: Lukashenko Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is promising his country's support for the Chinese government's Silk Road Economic Belt plan, saying his country will play an active role in it. Lukashenko made the comment while meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Minsk. The Belarusian President says his country is looking for more Chinese investment in areas such as energy and finance. For his part, Wang Yi says China would link its Silk Road Economic Belt initiative to the national development strategies of Belarus to explore new space for cooperation. China's chemical plant fire put out The latest fire at a chemical plant in Fujian province has been put out. A series of fires have flared up since an explosion ripped through the facility more than 2 days ago, leaving 14 people injured. The latest blaze at the plant in the city of Zhangzhou was put out this morning. The original fire was caused by an oil leak at the xylene facility. Officials say no excessive pollution is being detected so far at nearby villages, where some 29-thousand people have been forced to evacuate homes. At least 2 killed, 1 injured in Milan courthouse shootout At least two people have been killed with another one injured in a shootout at a courthouse building in the Italian city of Milan. Local media reports that a judge is among the dead. The gunman is allegedly an entrepreneur accused of bankruptcy. He has reportedly fled the scene and police is hunting him. Iran's president: Sanctions must end for nuclear deal Iran's president Hassan Rouhani has warned that Tehran will not sign on to a final nuclear deal unless it is predicated on the lifting of economic sanctions imposed on the country. Rouhani made the comment during a ceremony marking Iran's nuclear technology day, celebrating the country's nuclear achievements. A week ago, Iran and six world powers reached a framework agreement about Iran's controversial nuclear program. Rouhani claims the deal is a victory and says the Iranian nation will not surrender before pressure, sanctions, and bullying. A final nuclear deal is due at the end of June. Kerry warns Iran over Yemen crisis US Secretary of State John Kerry has warned Iran over its alleged support for the Shi'ite Houthi militant group in Yemen. Kerry warns the US will not "stand by" if Iran destabilises the region. Tehran has strongly denied the accusations it is backing the Houthi militants. However, Iran has reportedly dispatched navy vessels to the Gulf of Aden, claiming to "safeguard naval routes for vessels in the region". On the other hand, the US is increasing support for a Saudi-led military coalition carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis, who have driven Yemen's president out of country. U.S. defense chief arrives in S. Korea for three-day visit The US defense chief has now arrived in South Korea, where he is scheduled to meet his defense counterpart and several other government officials. This is the second stop of Ashton Carter's first trip to Asia since being named defense secretary earlier this year. He is expected to discuss the deployment of an advanced missile shield system with officials in Seoul. Carter has just completed a three-day visit to Japan where he made remarks regarding China's Diaoyu Islands, saying nothing should interfere with Japan's administration of the disputed territory. Chinese officials responded immediately, calling on the Americans to not interfere with regional disputes. Boston Marathon bomber found guilty 21-year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been found guilty of all 30 charges connected to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. It took the jury just 12-hours to find Tsarnaev guilty on all counts. The jury is now deciding what sentence the 21-year-old will receive. He could face the death penalty. The bombing at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon left 3-people dead, including a young woman from China who had been studying in Boston at the time. The attack left more than 260 others injured.
