Good evening, everyone. This is Kelly from English show presented by Only for The Top One. Long time no see!!! It’s already march 2015 and we are about to embrace the new semester in New Oriental this weekend. Everything will go back to normal after that which means you can enjoy our English show everyday after this week. Some of you might be expecting me to bring you something inspiring or something passionate as the prelude of the new semester. Well, I guess that’s one way to start something new—— leaving behind the past and taking today as a fresh new start. I like the spirit but sometimes we don’t have to leave behind the past so fast for there might be something there we’d like to fix.
And the song you can hear now is called Back to December from Taylor Swift.
No offense, of all her “ to my ex-boyfriend” songs, this is one of my favorite because it’s simple and sincere. Some critics said that you never have to look up any word when you listen to Taylor’s song. Actually, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being simple. Just like this song, you don’t have much trouble understanding what she tries to express but it doesn’t mean we don’t have anything we can learn. And here are some expressions we are gonna talk about.
Your guard is up and I know why
So this is me swallowing my pride
Standing in front of you saying
I’m sorry for that nights
Maybe this is wishful thinking
Probably mindless dreaming
guard is up: 提高了警惕
swallow my pride: 放下我的骄傲
wishful: 一厢情愿的
mindless : 愚蠢的,不明智的
This is a song about regret. And if there’s an upside of regret, that would be it can always remind us of the mistakes we can’t make again.
So hope you can have a new semester without any regret.
That’s all for today. See you.
