Students from low-income families in rural areas will receive preferential enrollment when applying to China's top universities, such as Tsinghua and Peking University.
The Ministry of Education asked affiliated universities to admit rural students of a population of at least 2% of the whole enrollment quota that year. So with this program, about 50,000 rural students can be enrolled nationwide.
Students from rural areas have to apply online first, then pass a separate test designed under the plan and be admitted by the university with gaokao scores lower than the regular admission score.
