Basketball is enjoyed by millions of Americans and millions of Chinese people too. So, how does the sport bring the two countries together?
The Chinese Basketball Association is the top men's professional league in China, and there's a women's association too.
The team names usually have three parts – city, sponsor, and nickname… usually an animal.
In 1995 Chinese basketball got a boost when the home and away system was introduced, allowing the transfer of players and managers into and out of China. This allowed Chinese players to join the NBA – including Yao Ming, He Tianju, and Wang Zhizhi.
American NBAers also play in China, including Randolph Morris and Stephon Marbury of the Beijing Ducks.
So, when it comes to international friendship through sports, it’s a slam dunk for basketball!
