第六章:纽扣船长-01

Whenever he killed someone with his sword, he ripped a button off the dead man’s clothes. That was how Captain button got his sobriquet. His crew thought that was the way their chief left his signature behind. However, no one really knew the truth.
In spite of the fact that Captain Button was getting old, the corresponding loss of his physical strength didn’t affect his charisma much. It was the captain’s personal characteristics, skills and acumen that impressed his followers who accepted his command. Also, the captain’s reputation of coldness toward anyone who acted against him and his cruel disposition had forceful effect on his crew.
There was a rumour going around among gangsters. It was said that Captain Button’s sward had a power of black magic, which liked the taste of blood.
The captain knew his time would come soon. The noise from the crowd didn’t bother him at all. He sat there meditating on his exit plan.
His crew seemed to obey his commands, but he doubted their loyalty. Pirates by their nature were cunning and faithless. They, including himself, were driven by their greed and would show no mercy to anyone who came in their way.
By robbing trading ships and seizing from enemies, his gang has amassed a large stockpile of gold, silver and invaluable jewellery, which were stored at the inner bottom of their ship. Captain Button bet that everyone on the ship would steal the fortune and run away if given a chance. So he planned to hide all the treasures somewhere else without anyone knowing it.
