His explanation was that their ship became too heavy to steer after they took large quantities of loads from their defeated enemy last night. There was an uproar from the crowd. The crew disliked the idea although they were afraid to openly oppose the captain. They expressed concerns about theft since all of them would know the location of the cave. They would be such idiots if they considered their pirate fellows honest, reliable men. Judging the crowd’s reaction, the captain then provided another option. First, move all the treasures to the cave; everyone would then get his share, and everyone would take it upon himself to determine where to hide his own fortune.
