The recent G7 meeting in Germany issued a declaration saying that the group opposes 'any unilateral actions that seek to change the status quo' on the East and South China Seas.
In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei says the Chinese government has never accepted the so-called "status quo" of the illegal occupation in the Diaoyu Islands and its surrounding islets, and China's territories in the South China Sea.
Hong Lei said China has indisputable sovereignty over those areas.
"The international community can distinguish right from wrong on matters related to the East China Sea and the South China Sea. The rhetoric and deeds of the G7 are far from the facts and international standards. China strongly urges the G7 to respect the facts, abandon prejudice, stop making irresponsible remarks and do more to help resolve the dispute and maintain regional peace and stability.
China has always been committed to freedom of navigation and aviation in the East China Sea and the South China Sea. Over a long period of time, no country's rights of navigation and aviation under international law have been affected in these areas. If someone intends to create trouble on purpose and threaten that freedom, China will be the first to stand against it," he said.
China Pavilion Day highlights food policy, diversity
Milan is hosting the 2015 Expo from May 1 to October 31. The global event is a platform for sharing ideas and solutions around this year's theme—‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’—and on Monday, the highlight was the opening of China Pavilion Day.
Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang spoke while attending the ceremony marking the China Pavilion Day at the Expo.He said China—as a large, agricultural country with hundreds of millions of people, and an ancient civilization—has a unique understanding of the theme and concept of Expo 2015. The exhibition and architecture highlight the Chinese agrarian culture, its modern technology and current agricultural policy, whilst successfully expressing its theme— ‘Land of Hope, Food for Life’.
Wang expects China and Italy to use the platform at Milan Expo to cement friendships, deepen cooperation and advance bilateral partnerships, and give added vigor to the Silk Road initiative.
According to the latest count, more than half a million people have passed through the Chinese pavilion since the Milan Expo opened around a month ago. But China Pavilion Day in particular brought into focus for many China's diverse regions, culture, art and traditions.
Artists from Shanghai staged a fascinating performance at the Expo theater. Multimedia technology—incorporated with choreography in a poetic atmosphere—presented the beauty of the lotus flower in full bloom, while piano players gave life to the theme of the Expo with the famous Chinese song ‘In the Field of Hope’.
Meanwhile, Chinese traditional dragon dances, embroidery and a tea ceremony promise to be some of the best-remembered aspects of the day.
The 'Field of Hope' inside the pavilion consists of some 20,000 shining artificial wheat straws and presents visitors with a strong visual impression. It is also one of the most attractive art installations in the Expo.
"Through all this variety, interaction with different countries and the global society can be realized. To show China’s achievements on agricultural development, food security and food safety. Through these partnerships, we can focus more on the problems of food security and agricultural development, which the international community as a whole is facing," said Jiang Zengwei, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Director.
This event is one of a string of social and business engagements that will be hosted in the pavilion over the next five months. The upcoming China-Italy agricultural forum will begin in the next few days. This will include the culture weeks of 17 provinces and cities from across China, with art performances, culture heritage displays, gourmet exhibitions, and economic exchanges. It will be sure to give the 2015 Expo some more Chinese flavor.
Demonstration base in Anhui to promote cultural heritage
A state level demonstration base has been launched in Hefei in east China's Anhui Province, to display the three most famous carving styles of the historic Huizhou region. This is part of the effort to promote the intangible national cultural heritage.
The demonstration base has been established in the Huizhou Carving Art Gallery in Hefei. Owner of the gallery Zha Rong himself is one of the 27th generation of Huizhou-style carving artists.
The three Huizhou-style carvings, categorized as brick carving, stone carving and wood carving, originated in the Song Dynasty in a region that currently makes up east China's Anhui and Jiangxi provinces. The art form reached its peak during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Renowned for their artistic appearance and exquisite craft, the three Huizhou-style carvings were listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
The Huizhou Carving Art Gallery was founded by a group of skilled craftsmen with the aim of developing the carving art and promoting traditional Chinese culture. The launch of the demonstration base will definitely make a contribution.
