The reading passage talks about a change that the university is gonna make early next year, which is to switch to electronic textbooks from the traditional-bound ones, because it saves money in the long run and the device can facilitate the study.
However, the woman in the dialogue holds an opposite view based on the following two reasons.
First, she thinks the cost is not as realistic as the passage suggests. People won't use only one device during the whole college time. They will want to have the latest version with newest and fanciest features. Therefore, the cost may add up eventually.
Moreover, the device is not helpful to each user equally. The size of it is too small to operate, for example, the small keypad and the control button may make it inconvenient for the people with normal or bigger finger to do the highlighting and underlying. She prefers the traditional way of note-taking.
