The Ministry of Commerce says foreign direct investment in China's western regions posted strong growth in the first quarter of this year.
Ministry spokesperson Shen Danyang.
"In the first quarter, the FDI in western regions reached 21.3 billion yuan or 3.3 billion US dollars. This doesn't look like such a big number, but it's big relatively speaking, marking a 42.5-percent jump year on year and far outpacing the national growth."
Shen Danyang adds that in terms of the industrial structure, the service market has great potential in western regions.
"In the first quarter, foreign investment showed high enthusiasm in the service industry in the western regions and created robust growth. The growth rates of transportation, wholesale and retail, as well as information transmission were all over 100 percent year on year."
Meanwhile, the MoC says China's service outsourcing industry expanded at a faster pace in Q1.
Data shows Chinese companies inked service outsourcing contracts worth 34 billion dollars, up 25 percent year on year.
The growth rate accelerated from a 7.5-percent increase recorded in the first two months of the year.
