So let's start with some questions I'll start easy ... and then we can add some harder ones. All of these questions are about your city. Finish the sentence: 1) We have too many ...... We have too many fast food restaurants in my city. We have too many lazy people in my city. If a person is not cool, we call them "square" 2) We don't have enough..... Now a difficult one! 3) The city should provide more ..... My city should provide more opportunity to poor people. OR "The city should provides more parking spaces." That's a really good one.... we call that "low-income housing" In English we say "Bike Sharing" MoBike and programs like that are called "Bike Sharing" We can often just say "opportunity" My city should provide more opportunity to young people. My city should provide more opportunity to poor people. Here "opportunity" already means for jobs, for development, for money... Bike sharing will definitely decrease? Let's go on to Section 5... Let's talk about each of the transportation services in your city "facilities for pedestrians" you might not know... pedestrians are people who walk' sidewalk is where the pedestrians walk 1 is terrible.... 5 is excellent Are any of the transportation services in your city a 5? I'd give the parking in my city a 5. There are many parking spaces and not many cars. None of the transportation services in your city get a 5. How about 2? Do any of the transportation services in your city get a 2? "needs improvement"? "The trains don't run on time" Yes, I think many cities already made this change ... They replaced the ticket seller with a machine. The subway is very very old, and now carries too many people. There need to be newer stations and more trains! That seems like a common complaint. There aren't enough pedestrian facillities. More parks, more places to sit, better sidewalks.. All the subway systems in China are pretty good, many are excellent! They're brand new. Sometimes a little crowded though Over 100 years old ... Too old. Let's try some other questions ... These are a different kind of questoin.. question. So the parking systme also gets a 2 from you ... not enough parking. This is a very common problem in cities. First take 1 minute to read the questions How would you answer a question like: How much do cabs cost? In New York City, cabs cost $2.50 to start, then $.50 per 60 seconds after that So it's 6 yuan for 3 km. Then 1.5 yuan for each km. In Beijing it's 13 yuan to start, and then 3.7 yuan per mile after that. We can think about those questions for homework Let's continue on to Section 8 now.. The "r" sound is still giving lots of people difficulty "rest room" "Where the rest rooms are" So tomorrow we're going to study Section 9 It's not very difficult Taking direct questions "Where is the bank"... and making them indirect questions "Could you tell me where the bank is?" But for homework, I want you to look at the questions in Section 7 Think about how can you answer the questions... There are many ways to answer each question... No clear "right" or "wrong" Which makes it a little difficult, but also makes it fun!
