Outside the door of the Zhaorong Consort[2] purple sleeves hang down,
peering in pairs to the imperial throne they lead in the court array.
Incense wafts through the meeting hall, turning in springtime breeze,
flowers cover the thousand officials, the pure sunbeams shift.
Daylight’s water-clock, but faintly heard, time announced from the high tower,
when His Majesty’s countenance[3] is pleased, close attendant officials know.
Every time we go out from the palace I return to the eastern ministry,
together we go with Kui and Long to gather at Phoenix Pool.
