Are you serious?
This question can have two meanings.
First, it’s like the Chinese “zhen de ma？/真的吗?”. You want to know if someone is telling the truth or if they are joking.
Second, you can use this question with the word “about” to find out if somebody is just talking about a plan or if they will really do it.
Example:
“I think I will take a year off and go traveling.”
“Are you serious about taking a year off? Did you safe enough money?”
