The Story of Yanxi Palace is an upcoming Chinese costume drama starring Wu Jinyan, Qin Lan and Charmaine Sheh. Set in the Qing dynasty, it tells the story of a common seamstress who enters the Changchun Palace as a maid but eventually becomes a high-ranking imperial concubine.
If the premise sounds familiar, it is because there are other dramas with similar plot lines and characters, including Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace, which hopefully airs soon, and the classic My Fair Princess (1998) with Zhao Wei, Ruby Lin and Fan Bingbing.
Wu Jinyan stars as Wei Yingluo, our protagonist. She has never led a cast in a drama series before but makes quite an impression in the trailer. The rest of the main cast are well-established stars, like Qin Lan as the gracious Empress Xiaoxian Chun, Charmaine Sheh as a consort whose love for the emperor is unrequited, and Nie Yuan as Emperor Qianlong.
