Cycling: Astana may lose its World Tour title as doping scandal unravels
Tour de France winner Vincenzo Nibali's team Astana may lose its World Tour Champions title after three riders from the nine man team failed their doping tests.
Brothers Maxim and Valentin Iglinsky earlier tested positive for the banned substance EPO, while Ilya Davidenok was notified this week that he had failed a test for anabolic steroids.
Davidenok has the right to request analysis of the 'B' sample but has been temporarily suspended.
The International Cycling Union has already launched an investigation into the team's doping allegations and could possibly revoke their license, banning them from competing in future events.
Astana withdrew themselves from the recently concluded Tour of Beijing, after the sport's governing body put pressure on them, saying that a team with two doping allegations levelled against them in such a short period of time tarnished the image of the game.
Astana has been plagued with several high-profile doping cases.
The team's Kazakh manager and lead rider Alexander Vinokourov completed a two-year drug ban in 2009 but returned triumphantly to win the road race at the London Olympics in 2012.
