TV adaptation of Mo Yan's Red Sorghum to premier on Oct 27
The TV series "Red Sorghum", adapted from Nobel laureate Mo Yan's novel, is to premier on October 27.
The 60-episode series will be available on Tencent's video site v.qq.com and Beijing TV.
It is directed by Zheng Xiaolong. The cast includes Zhou Xun, Zhu Yawen and Qin Hailu.
The story is set during the 1920s and 30's in Mo Yan's hometown Shangdong.
It revolves around the epic lives of Jiu'er and Yu Zhan'ao as they struggle through the war against Japanese aggression.
Cao Ping, producer of the show, says the crew made alterations to the original novel to fit screen needs.
Red Sorghum was Mo Yan's first novel. It was published in 1986 and consisted of five volumes.
It was made into a film of the same name by director Zhang Yimou, and won the Golden Bear Award for best film at the 1988 Berlin Film Festival.
Feng Xiaogang to lead Guan Hu's new film
Director Feng Xiaogang is set to play the lead role in Guan Hu's new film "Lao Pao'er老炮儿".
"Lao Pao'er" is a term in Beijing dialect which refers to people who have nothing to do but wandering around all day.
The story is about an old "lao pao'er" who finds himself unable to relate to the younger generation.
Feng Xiaogang last played a leading role in the film "I am Your Father" 14 years ago.
Kris Wu, who recently terminated his contract with South Korea's boy band EXO, will also star in the film.
Angry Birds Playground opens in Shanghai
China's first Angry Birds Playground has just opened in Shanghai.
It features learning facilities and targets children between the age of 3 and 6.
Sanna Laukander is the vice-president of learning and book publishing at Rovio, creator of the Angry Birds video games.
"The Angry birds Playground kindergarten does not only consist of Angry birds characters. It is like a vast area of beautiful literature and beautiful art. It is a 360 degree approach to learning. So the Angry Birds are just there to motivate and help engage children."
Many parents who brought their children to the Playground have given positive feedback.
Rovio has signed a preliminary agreement with China to set up more Angry Birds learning facilities.
Alexander Wang, H&M launch 2014 F/W collection
Alexander Wang and H&M released the results of their collaboration in New York earlier today.
The Chinese-American fashion designer and the Swedish clothing company launched their collection for autumn/winter 2014.
It includes apparel and accessories for both men and women.
The entire line will hit some 250 H&M stores worldwide and online early next month.
New York based Alexander Wang is known for his urban designs and irreverent fashion approach. He is now creative director at Balenciaga.
H&M has been in touch with luxury brand designers, since their collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld became a smash hit 10 years ago. Previous guest designers include Stella McCartney, Viktof & Rolf and Roberto Cavalli.
Foundation Louis Vuitton to open in Paris
Foundation Louis Vuitton, a contemporary art museum dedicated to exhibitions, is set to open in Paris in ten days.
The swelling sail shaped glass building was designed by architect Frank Gehry.
It will open with an exhibit called "Voyage of Creation" to help visitors understand the architecture of the building.
It will also have musical guests playing in its auditorium. Chinese pianist Lang Lang will be the first to grace the stage.
The museum will host two exhibits every year. The next one is scheduled for December.
Roman Polanski brings vampire musical to Paris
Also in Paris, Roman Polanski's musical "the Fearless Vampire Killers" has made its debut.
It is an adaptation of his 1967 film of the same name.
It was first staged by Polanski in German for Vienna in 1997. Polanski originally had doubts about the French version.
"I was a bit afraid because the French language does not translate well. Singing is a different type of thing altogether. English is good for singing, German too. French, not so much. But when I first saw the text in French I realized it was possible here."
Polanski says vampires and musicals are becoming popular in Europe so he wanted to bring it here.
"That's what I wanted to bring in here. The west-end type of theater which does not exist in France. Probably that gave me the possibility of finally convincing people that it may work here. We'll see."
Heidi Klum, Seal finalize divorce
Model Heidi Klum and singer Seal are officially divorced.
The Los Angeles Superior Court finalized their divorce judgement earlier this week.
The couple were married for nearly seven years, before they announced their separation two years ago.
Klum then immediately filed for divorce.
Klum is the host of reality show "Project Runway".
Seal was a triple Grammy winner with his hit "Kiss from a Rose".
They have three children together.
Joan Rivers died of complication during medical procedure
Comedian Joan Rivers, who passed away last month, died of a complication during a medical procedure caused by oxygen deprivation to the brain.
The New York Chief medical Examiners Office said in a statement, the manner of the 81-year-old's death was a therapeutic complication, adding that the death resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy.
Rivers, the brash comedienne, who paved the way for women in stand-up comedy, died on September 4th. After she stopped breathing during an outpatient medical procedure on her vocal cords.
Her career as a stand-up comedian, author, talk show host and reality TV star spanned five decades.
