China climbs to 88th in the latest FIFA rankings
China's national football team climbed to 88th on FIFA's overall world rankings for October. This puts the Chinese squad nine positions higher than last month.
China is also now in the continental top-10, ranking ninth after overtaking Qatar, Australia and Saudi Arabia.
The Chinese men's team played two warm-up games in October and won both.
One of those games saw China beat Thailand 3-0, avenging two losses to the Thais last year.
Four days later, China beat Paraguay 2-1 in Changsha.
Iran maintains the top spot in Asia, followed by Japan, Uzbekistan and South Korea.
Germany is still No. 1 in the world, with Argentina second and Columbia third.

First-place Guangzhou Evergrande takes to the pitch against second-place Beijing Guo'an. Both teams are heading into the match undefeated in their last five matches.

NBA: Steve Nash Out for Season with Bad Back, Weekend Game Preview

Bad news for Los Angeles Lakers star point-guard Steve Nash.
LA has announced that Nash will miss the entire season due to a back injury.
The 40-year-old Canadian native only played three pre-season games, feeling more pain in his second outing, according to ESPN.
Nash then strained his back while carrying luggage earlier this week.
Nash has said that, while he will continue to support his team during this period of rest, he will focus on his long-term health.
The Lakers take on the Sacramento Kings tomorrow at 10 a.m., Beijing time.

Game 3 of the World Series takes place in San Francisco on Saturday at 8:07 a.m., Beijing time.
With the Giants and Kansas City now sitting at one game apiece, a win on Saturday could be the difference in momentum for either team to run away with the championship.
Game 3 will see Giants pitcher Tim Hudson making his first World Series appearance dueling KC's veteran pitcher Jeremy Guthrie. Both men are looking to make a statement on Saturday.
