Jia Zhangke's latest film to compete at Cannes Film Festival The 68th Cannes Film Festival has announced the full lineup for its 68th edition. Chinese director Jia Zhangke's latest film "Mountains May Depart" will be competing for prizes along with 16 other films next month. It's the first film with English dialogue Jia has ever produced. It tells a romantic story spanning two decades. The director hopes this film can help to remind people of precious feelings that are usually ignored. Jia says the film is quite special for him. "This film is actually very important for me. This is the first time for me to produce a movie concerning the future. One third of the movie is shot at Australia. It's not a Sci-fi movie. But one third of the movie happens ten years later. In the past we might have forgotten a lot of precious feelings. I've been thinking whether we can find them back in the future. That's where I got the inspiration to tell a story lasts from the last to the future through this film. " The director, screenwriter and producer is also reported to be a member of the jury in this year's festival. Two other Asians films have been selected to compete this year. The Assasin, from Taiwan, by Hou Hsiao-Hsien, and Umimachi Diary, from Japan, by Kore-Eda Hirokazu. This year's Cannes Film Festival will open with a film from French director Emmanuelle Bercot. Screening of "La Tete Haute" will be the first time in some 25-years that Cannes has opened with a film directed by a woman.
