Nibali's Astana Retain World Tour License
In cycling,
Tour de France champion Vincenzo Nibali has been cleared to ride in this year's race after his Astana team retained their world tour license.
Astana has been tainted with doping cases and cycling's governing body UCI wanted the sport's Licence Commission to strip the Kazakh team of its elite status.
The Commission agreed Astana should retain its license, subject to strict monitoring of a number of special measures.
A string of Astana riders tested positive for banned substances last season, including Maxim and Vlentin Iglinsky, who were teammates with Nibali and helped him win the Tour de France.
The World Tour license guarantees its holder direct participation to the top races including the Tour de France, the Paris-Roubaix classic and the Giro d'Italia.
