Polanski gets film award in Poland Polish filmmaker Roman Polanski has received the "Against the Current" award for independence in art at the 8th edition of the PKO Off Camera film festival in Krakow. The same Polish city where a court is weighing a U.S. request for his extradition. Polanski, who spent his childhood in Krakow, jokingly said he was happy to be award there "at long last." Russian ballerina Maya Plisetskaya dies 89 Maya Plis-et-skaya, who is regarded as one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century has died at the age of 89. She died in Germany of a heart attack on Saturday. Plis-et-skaya's career at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow spanned for more than 35 years. President Vladimir Putin issued a message of condolence, and tributes came from across the dance world. Plis-et-skaya was renowned for intense performances that contrasted with the ethereal style of many other dancers, especially in Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake." She last took to the stage in 2000 for gala appearances, including a 75th birthday performance. Coldplay donate $15,000 to quadruple amputee British rock band Coldplay have donated 10,000 pounds, that's around 15,000 U.S. dollars, to an "inspiring" quadruple amputee, who lost his limbs to a deadly infection. Chris Martin, the band's frontman, personally emailed Alex Lewis from England to say he had "renewed his faith in life." Alex had contracted an infection which led to rare Strep A Toxic Shock Syndrome. His infected limbs were staring to poison his body and had to be amputated to save his life.
