China's top diplomat meets the head of Japan's National Security Council China's top diplomat, State Councilor Yang Jiechi has met the head of Japan's National Security Council Shotaro Yachi on Thursday in Beijing. An earlier statement from the China's Foreign Ministry says both sides will exchange views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. Shotaro Yachi is in China from Thursday to Saturday for a high-level political dialogue. Chinese VP kicks off an official visit to Vietnam Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli has kicked off an official visit to Vietnam on Thursday. Zhang Gaoli is at the invitation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. A detailed schedule of the visit will be announced later. China and Vietnam will see a fresh impetus injected into bilateral ties as high-level exchanges of visits further boost political trust. China's top political advisor to visit Thailand, Indonesia China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng is scheduled to visit Thailand and Indonesia from July 21 to 28. Yu Zhengsheng is the chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He has been invited by the president of Thailand's national legislative assembly and the chairman of the people's consultative assembly of Indonesia. China objects U.S. trade remedy ruling against Chinese tires China's Ministry of Commerce has expressed strong discontent to a final U.S. ruling against imported tires from China. The ministry says the U.S Department of Commerce adopted multiple unfair and discriminating methods to calculate exorbitant dumping margins and counter available subsidies last month. The US side said earlier that the tire industry was materially injured by imports from China. They are expected to issue antidumping and countervailing duty orders on August 3rd. The MOC has urged the US to strictly comply with international trade rules to protect economic relations between the two countries. Falling plane part hits Shanghai factory An airplane part weighing 60 kilograms has plunged from the sky and hit a manufacturing building in Shanghai. The incident happened on Monday, so far no casualties have been reported. China's civil aviation regulator has confirmed that the object is part of a hatchway cover from the undercarriage of a Boeing 777. Aviation authorities are still trying to find the plane that lost the hatch. The object also struck a temporary wooden building nearby. The cause of the incident is still under investigation. Fire engulfs petrochemical plant in E. China A fire that engulfed a petrochemical plant in Shandong has now been brought under control. The fire broke out on Thursday morning after tanks containing liquefied hydrocarbon leaked at the plant in the city of Rizhao. More than 130 firefighters rushed to the scene. No casualties have been reported yet. Police are investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, environmental personnel monitoring air quality around the plant have found excessive content of harmful non-methane hydrocarbon in some places. Sick man sentenced to death for injuring 20 in NE China A man in Heilongjiang has received the death penalty for injuring 20 people with a knife. Li Huaqiang attacked 14 diners at a KFC restaurant and injured six others at a Mcdonald's in the city of Daqing last September. The knife attack left seven people seriously wounded. Li suffers from Myasthenia Gravis a rapid fatigue of muscles. A court said Li went on the rampage to take revenge on society, deeming that he was unfairly treated. The court ruling also ordered him to pay one million yuan to the injured as compensation. China's State Council removes senior sports official after graft probe The State Council, China's cabinet, has formally removed a senior sports official from his post. Xiao Tian, former deputy director of China's General Administration of Sport, was put under investigation last month for serious breaches of discipline and law. His replacement has not been announced so far. The central government says the probe will not reduce Beijing's confidence in bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Japan's ruling bloc rams through controversial war bills in lower house Japan's ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has approved a set of controversial security bills. The bills have been passed in the lower house despite strong public opposition on Thursday. They would allow the Japanese Self-Defense Forces to play a greater role by engaging in armed conflicts overseas if they are enacted. The bills can also help defend others even if Japan is not attacked. Abe has argued that Japan should better prepare for regional threats and do more to contribute to international peacekeeping efforts. But a poll shows that over 50 percent of Japanese people are opposed to the bills. Mount Raung, Gamalama volcanoes erupt in Indonesia Two volcanoes have erupted in Indonesia on Thursday. Mount Raung, in the western part of Indonesia has erupted again, while Mount Gamalama, in the eastern part of the country, has also erupted after being quiet since December. The Indonesian authorities have banned people from entering the area of the volcanoes. The country's transport ministry closed Bali international airport last Thursday, along with four other airports, as volcanic ash from Mount Raung endangered aviation. Mount Raung and Mount Gamalama are among 129 active volcanoes in Indonesia.
