English-language Chilean survival drama "The 33" premiered in Los Angeles Monday night, as part of the week long AFI FEST film festival.
The movie recreates a real-life story from 2010, when 33 Chilean men were trapped in a collapsed mine for 69 days and all survived the ordeal.
Lead actor Antonio Banderas says the actual survivors were very helpful during the whole film-making process.
"We were very lucky, actually, because we had the possibility to actually have the real miners with us practically the whole entire time. So, I could talk to my character. I got a lot of information, a lot of data that I needed, actually, to make the movie, and I knew him personally to a point that I can actually perform him honestly and on the spot. There were things that I was asking him right before I went in front of the cameras."
Four of those survivors were also present for the Los Angeles premiere.
