Football: France-Germany friendly affected by Paris attacks This morning's deadly attacks in Paris are also resonating through the football world. Its believed at least two of the attackers attempted to storm the French National Stadium in Paris on Friday evening while France was hosting an international friendly against Germany. Spectators, which included French President Francois Hollande, heard a pair of loud explosions during the first half of the match, followed by wailing police sirens. The match did continue, with France winning 2-nil. However, the 2nd half of the match was overshadowed as people inside the stadium began to get word of what was taking place outside. Around 2-thousand people remained after the match on the pitch, afraid to leave the National Stadium. The attacks came just hours after the German team had to be evacuated from their hotel because of a bomb threat, though its not clear if that incident is related to the deadly violence in Paris. -- Next door in Spain, where the Spanish side dumped England 2-nil in another of 10 the international friendlies last night, word of the attack also filtered through after the match. Spanish head coach Vicente del Bosque. "I don't know the details. But the events were appalling. It is terrible that they could seize football to commit such a horrid thing. I feel sad for what happened in France today." So far FIFA has not said whether the attacks in Paris will have any affect on schedules or security at football venues. --- In 2018 World Cup qualifying, A few surprising results coming out of Africa, including the 3rd best team in Africa, 30th-ranked Ghana, being held to a nil-nil draw by Comoros. Comoros is ranked 177th in the world. -- At the same time, 150th ranked Swaziland held world number-59 Nigeria to a nil-nil draw. -- And Kenya, which sits 125th in the world rankings, upset Africa's 4th highest ranked team, world number-32 Cape Verde, 1-nil. -- In other action from African World Cup qualifying, Madagascar held Senegal to a 2-2 draw. -- Libya edged Rwanda 1-nil. -- South Africa dumped Angola 3-1. -- Cameroon blanked Niger 3-nil. -- Cote d'Ivoire squeeked past Liberia 1-nil. -- And it was Tunisia over Mauritania 2-1. -------------------------- From South American World Cup qualifying. It was a depleted Argentinian side holding Brazil to a 1-1 draw. But like everywhere else in the football world, the attacks in Paris resonated. It was Ireland earning a 1-1 away draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina. The 2nd leg of their qualifier will take place on Monday. -- Tonight, Ukraine entertains Slovenia, while Sweden is at home to Denmark. -- These matches are among the clubs which finished 3rd in their respective groups in the Euro 2016 Round Robin. The winners will qualify for next year's tournament in France. Football: Man City entertains Liverpool in Premier League From the English Premier League, Eight matches on the docket for this evening. Badminton: Chen Long into final at China Open In badminton, Top-seed Chen Long is into the finals of the China Open Super Series event in Fuzhou. He's through after dispatching South Korea's Son Won-ho in straight-sets earlier today. Chen Long will await the winner of tonight's other semi-final match between Chinese veteran Lin Dan and former world number-1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia. -- On the women's single's side, Li Xuerui is into the finals after making quick work of Chinese compatriot Wang Shixian this afternoon, 21-14, 21-5. She'll take on the winner of tonight's other semi-final in Fuzhou between China's Wang Yihan and India's Sania Nehwal. -- And in Women's Doubles, The Chinese duo of Yu Yang and Tang Yuanting are also into the finals in Fuzhou after dumping Zhao Yunlei and Tian Qing earlier today. The Boston Celtics have moved to .500 on the season, handing Atlanta its 1st road loss of the year, downing the Hawks 106-93. -- Cleveland have won 8-in-a-row, getting past the New York Knicks 90-84. The Cavs haven't lost since opening night in Chicago in front of US President Barack Obama. -- Chicago were winners this morning as well, edging Charlotte 102-97. -- It was Indiana over Minnesota 107-103. -- Orlando got past Utah 102-93. -- Toronto downed New Orleans 100-81. -- Memphis squeezed past Portland 101-100. -- Houston went down to Denver 108-98. -- The Lakers have now lost 4-in-a-row, going down to Dallas 90-82. -- Brooklyn's woes continue.
