NFL: Panthers fall short of perfect season

The Carolina Panthers dream of a perfect season has come to an end.
The Panthers went down to Atlanta 20-13 this morning.
The loss drops them to 14-1 on the season.

"I'm not concerned. But I am concerned about is, you know, is going to be our mental frame of mind. We're going to find out what type of character we have. I mean, this you know is a disappointing loss. We came here with every intention to win a football game and hopefully clinch but we didn't and so we gotta go back to work, we have Tampa Bay coming up we've gotta focus in on them."
Despite the victory, Atlanta will not be making the playoffs after the Minnesota Vikings took care of that option, hammering the New York Giants 49-17 this morning.
With the win, Minnesota returns to the NFL playoffs for the first time in 3-years.
In other action, Arizona still has an outside shot at securing home-field advantage in the NFC, after hammering Green Bay 38-8 this morning.
Arizona, at 13-2, can overtake Carolina for home-field advantage if they can win their final game, and Carolina drops their last one.
In the AFC,
The New York Jets have moved into a wild-card slot, upsetting the New England Patriots 26-20.
The Jets are now in the playoff position after Pittsburgh went down to Baltimore 20-17.
The Houston Texans appear poised to take the AFC South, and its only playoff slot, after rolling past Tennessee 34-6.
However, their playoff tickets aren't completely booked yet, as Indianapolis kept their slim hopes alive with an 18-12 win over Miami.
The Colts will need a final-game win and a Houston loss to make the playoffs.
Manchester United to Take on Chelsea in EPL
In football action from the English Premiership,
Round 19 is set to kick off later tonight with 8 games on the schedule.
Second placed Arsenal is at home to Bournemouth.
Arsenal comes into tonight's matchup after a 4-nil thrashing by mid-table side Southampton on Sunday.
The Gunners are looking for their first league title since 2004.

Southampton is looking to keep its momentum going as they're on the road against West Ham United.
Stoke is on the road to take on Everton.
Crystal Palace is at home to Swansea.
Norwich is up against Aston Villa.

And in a match many thought might well have been for first place before the season started, its Manchester United taking on Chelsea.
Man-U is currently tied for 6th on the table, while Chelsea, last year's champions, are just two points above the relegation line.
Lionel Messi Wins Best Player of Globe Soccer Awards
In off-field football news,
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has been named Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai.
"Hello. Good evening. The truth is, happy, obviously. It's always beautiful receiving this recognition. Even though the importance is in the team as a whole, this is also beautiful to receive an individual prize, and so I am happy, appreciative, and content to be here."
Messi's Barcelona squad also won the award for Best Media Attraction.
Its President Josep Maria Bartomeu won President of the Year honors.
Belgian coach Marc Wilmots has been named Coach of the Year, while Italy's Andrea Pirlo and England's Frank Lampard have been given the Player Career Awards.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Lima has confirmed he has received offers to join a number of Chinese clubs next year.
The 25-year-old has confirmed offers from Super League sides Jiangsu Sainty and Shanghai SIPG, as well as from Hebei China Fortune, which is being elevated to the Super League this coming season.
However, Lima says his first choice still remains playing in Europe, where he's received offers to play in Italy.
Ning Zetao, Zhu Ting Among 2015 Annual Top Ten Players
Chinese swimmer Ning Zetao has been named one of China's top 10 athletes of the year.
The annual list, put out by the Xinhua News Agency, has added the 22-year-old for his victory in the men's 100-meter freestyle event at the World Swimming Championships earlier this year.

Chinese female volleyball player Zhu Ting is also on the list.
The 21-year-old led Team China to victory at this year's FIVB Women's Volleyball World Cup in Japan, earning China a ticket to next year's Rio Olympics.
Zhu Ting was named the most valuable player of the tournament.

Worldwide, Usain Bolt has topped Xinhua's list of the 10 best non-Chinese athletes of the year.
The 29-year-old Jamaican became the first athlete to win three golds at three consecutive world championships, making him the most successful athlete in the 32-year history of the Athletics World Championships.
American basketball superstar Stephen Curry, tennis ace Serena Williams and British Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton are also on the list.
Los Angeles Lakers Lose 112-96 to Memphis Grizzlies
In basketball action from the NBA,
A light schedule today, with only 4-games played.
Among them, it was Memphis rolling over the LA Lakers 112-94.
Boston upended the New York Knicks 100-91.
It was Russell Westbrook leading Oklahoma over Denver 122-112.
And it was Sacramento going down to Portland 98-94.

Off court news,
The LA Clippers are going to be without star Blake Griffin for the next couple of weeks.
Griffin suffered a partial tear in his left quadriceps muscle during their victory on Christmas Day against the Lakers.
The Utah Jazz are also dealing with injury troubles.
Guard Alec Burks is out indefinitely after breaking his leg during a their last game against the Clippers.
Burks, who started every game for Utah this season, had been the team's 3rd highest scorer.

An off day today in the CBA, with the lone game tomorrow seeing the Beijing Ducks fly south to take on Foshan tomorrow night.
The Ducks will be looking for their 10th straight victory after a 128-106 win over Jilin last night.

It comes just two days after losing to Beijing by a 30-point deficit.
Sichuan managed 50 points in the second quarter, the second highest score through a quarter in CBA history.

Hockey: Panthers move to top of Atlantic Division
In hockey action from the NHL this morning,
The Florida Panthers are now at the top of the Atlantic Division after winning their 6th straight, downing the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 this morning.
The victory vaults the Panthers over Detroit and Montreal into the top of the division, as former leaders Montreal suffered their 6th straight loss yesterday.
Florida plays host to Montreal later this week.
In other action this morning,
The Calgary Flames have won their 11th straight win at home, getting past the Edmonton Oilers 5-3.
Despite this, the Flames are still 5th in the Pacific Division, as they've only managed to win 5 games on the road all season.
