China willing to provide assistance for Afghan peace talks: FM
China has pledged to support and assist the restarting of the peace process in Afghanistan.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the statement as senior officials from Afghanistan, the United States, China and Pakistan started consultations in Islamabad to push forward the peace process in Afghanistan.
Hong Lei said China backed the "Afghan-led, Afghan-owned" reconciliation process and is willing to continue playing a constructive role to this end.
The consultations in Islamabad are aimed at creating a conducive atmosphere for the direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

Pakistan brokered the first ever face-to-face talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban in early July but the second round was cancelled after the death of Taliban leader Mullah Omar.

China is calling on all parties to exercise restraint following the latest moves by the United States and South Korea in retaliation for North Korea's nuclear test.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei says China is willing to work with all parties to get the nuclear issue back to the negotiation table to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea announced last week it had successfully tested its first H-bomb.
In retaliation, South Korean military resumed propaganda broadcasts across the border and the United States flew a B-52 bomber over the South.

Chinese stocks plunge again
Chinese stocks have plunged again after trading was suspended twice last week due to steep losses.
At Monday's close, the Shanghai Composite Index nosedived 5.3 percent while the Shenzhen Component Index lost 6.2 percent.
The losses came after official data released over the weekend showed that domestic demand remains lackluster amid a slowing economy.
The consumer price index, a main gauge of inflation, increased 1.4 percent year on year in 2015, hitting a six-year low.
Meanwhile, the producer price index, a measure of the cost for goods at the factory gate, dropped 5.2 percent year on year in 2015, widening from a 1.9-percent slip registered in 2014.
Compensation promised for Ningxia bus arson victims' families
The families of 17 victims who died in a bus fire last week in northwest China's Ningxia are to each receive 750,000 yuan or about 114,000 U.S.dollars compensation from the bus company.
The local government made the announcement as a public ceremony was held in the provincial capital Yinchuan to mourn the victims.
A local transit bus caught fire during the morning rush hour last Tuesday in the suburbs of Yinchuan, killing 17 people and injuring 33 others.
Police detained arson suspect Ma Yongping later in the day. He was officially arrested on Sunday.
Prosecutors say Ma had a financial dispute with a construction contractor and expressed his discontent by setting fire to the bus.
Mexico begins extradition proceedings against drug lord
Mexico has begun the process of extraditing the drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to the United States.
The infamous fugitive was recaptured Friday following a long manhunt after he escaped from a Mexican prison in July, 2015.
Officials say the extradition process could take a long time as Guzman's lawyers plan to file legal appeals, and maneuver to keep their client in Mexico, where he has already escaped from maximum security prisons twice.
