DPRK fires 5 short-range projectiles into east waters
South Korea says North Korea has fired five short-range projectiles into the sea in an apparent response to the ongoing South Korea-U.S. military drills.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff say the projectiles flew about 200 kilometers before landing in waters off North Korea's east coast.
The firings came three days after North Korea launched its first medium-range missile into the sea since early 2014, ignoring U.N. resolutions against such tests.
Earlier this month, North Korea fired several short-range missiles and artillery shells into the sea and threatened pre-emptive nuclear strikes against Washington and Seoul.
Shandong reveals list of problematic vaccines
Authorities in Shandong province have made public a list of problematic vaccines illegally sold in 18 provinces since 2011.
The 12 vaccines, 2 immune globulin and one therapeutic product were allegedly sold by a mother and daughter, neither of whom was authorized to sell vaccines.
China's drug regulator and police are trying to trace the vaccines, which are worth more than 570 million yuan or 88 million U.S. dollars.
The case is the largest of its kind in China in terms of the amount of money involved.
US to offer ZTE 'temporary relief' on export curbs: report
It's been reported that the US Department of Commerce is expected to lift export curbs it imposed on Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE for alleged violations of a US trade restriction.
The curbs are expected to be lifted this week.
The restrictions imposed earlier this month made it difficult for ZTE to acquire US components by requiring its suppliers to apply for an export license before shipping any American-made equipment or parts to ZTE.
ZTE is the No. 4 smartphone vendor in the United States, with a 7 percent market share.
Mozambique debris suspectd to be from Flight MH370 arrives in Australia
Two pieces of debris found in Mozambique which may have come from missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 have arrived in Australia for analysis.
The two items were found in February and December respectively.
Malaysia's transport minister has previously said there is a "high possibility" the debris found in February came from a Boeing 777, the same model as the missing flight.
So far, the only debris confirmed to have been from the missing plane is a wing part found on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion.
Kazakh ruling party wins landslide victory in parliamentary vote
The ruling party in Kazakhstan, Nur Otan, has won a landslide victory in Sunday's election for the Majilis, or the lower house of parliament.
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev decided in January to dissolve the Majilis and hold an early election in response to public calls by Majilis members.
75-year-old Nazarbayev has been in office since before the country's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
He was elected to a new five-year term last year.
S. China police seized 450 kg of illegal ivory
Police in Guangdong have seized about 450 kilograms of smuggled ivory in the southern Chinese province.
The haul is worth an estimated 18 million yuan or 2.8 million U.S. dollars.
The ivory was seized on a speed boat heading from Hong Kong to the mainland city of Zhuhai.
The boat crew had all fled before police arrived.
Under Chinese law, anyone involved in the illegal ivory trade faces a maximum life sentence.
Beijing reports another imported yellow fever case
Health authorities in Beijing have announced one more imported yellow fever case, making a total of four in the capital.
The patient, a 50-year-old man from Fujian, began running a fever in Angola earlier this month and had sought treatment in several local hospitals.
Doctors say he is in serious condition.
The four cases are all returnees from Angola.
Yellow fever is an acute viral disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes and mostly found in tropical regions.
Symptoms include fever, jaundice, and bleeding.
China wants stronger financial support for elder care
China is aiming to establish a financial system that matches the aging stage of the population and meets the senior care demand in the country.
A guideline issued by the central bank says the government will facilitate the flow of financial resources towards elderly care services as long as it is commercially viable.
China had more than 220 million people aged over 60 in 2015, accounting for 16 percent of the country's total population.
United Nations predictions show the number is expected to reach nearly 500 million by 2050.
Two more Chinese companies will become top FIFA sponsors
Chairman of China's property giant Wanda Group has disclosed that besides Wanda, two more Chinese companies will sign up as FIFA partners this year.
Wang Jianlin made the announcement at a press conference, without unveiling more details.
