Ronnie O'Sullivan beat Ding Junhui 9-3 to claim the Welsh Open title
In snooker, world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan clinched the 26th ranking title of his career after beating Chinese ace Ding Junhui 9-3 in the final of the Welsh Open.
The 38-year-old also produced a maximum 147 break in the final frame on route to claim his third Welsh Open title.
The win also moved the Englishman into third place among all-time winners, behind Stephen Hendry who had 35, and Steve Davis with 28.
O'Sullivan had also won the non-ranking Masters and Champion of Champions competitions.
Ding Junhui meanwhile lost the chance to equal the record of winning five ranking events in a row.
The 26-year-old had won 39 of his previous 41 ranking matches, losing only to Joe Perry at the Wuxi Classic and Ricky Walden in the UK Championship.
Also in snooker, the fourth and final Asian tour of the season, the Dongguan open gets underway tomorrow.
The four-day event wraps up on Friday.
Pellegrini wins first domestic trophy as Manchester City beat Sunderland 3-1 in Capital One Cup

First in the Spanish La Liga, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late equaliser as Real Madrid drew with title rivals Atletico 2-2.
The away draw earned Real a precious point and moved them one point ahead of defending champions Barcelona, who defeated Almeria 4-1 in a match earlier.

"I think it is always positive to get points. Real Madrid are obviously obliged to win but it's a difficult place to come. We came here in the second half a little bit better and we've not finished them off though. But we're still top of the table, there's three points difference."

Meanwhile in the Italian Serie A, Juventus moved closer to a third consecutive league title following a 2-0 victory at AC Milan put them 11 points clear atop of the table.

Pellegrini hopes the win can inspire his players to complete an historic domestic Treble.
In addition to the Cup success, Manchester City are also on course in the FA Cup chase, facing Wigan in the quarterfinals.
They are also in thick of the battle for the Premier League, now six points behind leaders Chelsea.
China to take part at the 2015 Copa America
In Chinese football, the national team confirmed it will take part in the 2015 Copa America competition in Chile.
The South American tournament involves 12 teams in four groups.
But since the confederation has only ten members, they usually invite two national teams from other FIFA confederations to fill the vacancies.
For 2015, they've extended the invitation to China after being turned down by Japan and Mexico.
The national squad is now in Dubai to take on Iraq in an Asian Cup qualifier.
The away draw will be the first match the team plays under newly-arrived coach Alain Perrin.
American Russell Henley wins the Honda Classic

American Russell Henley took his second PGA Tour title in a four-way playoff at the Honda Classic in Florida.
The 24-year-old birdied the first extra hole to edge out Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, American Ryan Palmer and Scotland's Russell Knox to win the trophy.
Henley said his form at the Northern Trust Open two weeks ago boosted his confidence.
"Yeah this doesn't feel real this is not what, exactly what I was expecting at the start of the week, I knew I was playing well and played, this sounds funny, but played really well at Riviera on Friday and almost made the cut, I went from almost last to having a putt at the last hole to make the cut and I don't know for some reason that gave me a lot of confidence going into this week and that's really all it takes I think."
McIlroy surrendered a big lead with a four-over-par 74 in the final round.
World No. 1 Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw on the 13th hole because of back pain.
His withdrawal comes less than six weeks before the Masters at Augusta, the first major of the season.
Woods last withdrew from a tournament at the 2012 Cadillac Championship, citing an Achilles injury which did not prove to be serious.
