The Chinese Super League kicks off its new season this evening.
In action now, last season's runners-up Shangdong Luneng is battling newly-promoted Harbin Yiteng.
Harbin Yiteng was promoted from the First League to the top-flight Super League last November after the team beat another First League side Beijing Institute of Technology FC 5-2.
After this match, Harbin Yiteng will next face defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande next Staturday.
While Shandong travels to Japan to face J-league side Cerezo Osaka for its AFC Champions League group stage draw.
Newly-arrived Perrin warns of major changes in the national squad ahead of Asian Cup
Also in Chinese football, newly arrived manager Alain Perrin is warning the national squad to expect changes and hard work ahead of next year's Asian Cup in Australia.
Frenchman Perrin made the remark after the Chinese team came perilously close to missing out on a place in the competition.
China had been expected to go through with ease but in the event it lost to Iraq 3-1 and would have been knocked out if not for goal differential.
Perrin says the Chinese squad was so distracted by events on the other match it was as if it was playing "with two souls"
Perrin now has nearly a year to improve a national team which won only two of its six qualifiers.
At Australia next year, China will face such stiff competition such as defending champion Japan, South Korea and Iran.
Peng Shuai progressed to the second round in Indian Wells while Li Na received a first round bye
In tennis, China's Peng Shuai booked her second-round berth at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells with a three-set win over former champion Vera Zvonareva.
Peng, who last month attained the world No. 1 doubles ranking, broke Zvonareva five times in the final two sets to seal the victory 4-6, 6-0, 7-5.
The 28-year-old next faces 18th-seed Eugenie Bouchard of Canada.
In other action, British qualifier Heather Watson lined up a second-round meeting with second-seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Swiss Belinda Bencic.
American Lauren Davis earned a meeting with third-seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Chinese Taipei's Chan Yung-jan.
Australian Open champion Li Na of China is the top seed in the women's draw, with defending champion Maria Sharapova, seeded fourth, drawn in the same half.
In the men's draw, Michael Russell rallied to advance to the second round after beating Donald Young 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Austrlian Lleyton Hewitt beat compatriot Matthew Ebden 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.
And American Tim Smyczek beat his fellow countryman Jack Sock 6-4 1-6 6-4.

The San Antonio Spurs thrashed Miami 111-87 in a rematch of last year's NBA finals.
Tim Duncan had 23 points and 11 rebounds and the Spurs never trailed against the Heat throughout the game.
Chris Bosh had 24 points and LeBron James added 19 for Miami, which suffered its worst loss of the season.
Over in California, the Los Angeles Clippers destroyed their cross-town rivals the Lakers 142-94.
The 48 point annihilation was the largest margin of victory in the history of the Clippers franchise.
Moreover, it was also the largest margin of defeat in the Lakers' franchise history, worse than the 46-point hammering they suffered at the hands of the Portland Trail Blazers almost ten years ago.
And in Arizona, Gerald Green scored a career high of 41 points, including 25 in the third quarter to help Phoenix erase a 16 point deficit and beat the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder 128-122.
Russell Westbrook scored a season-high 36 for the Thunder. Kevin Durant add 34.
Dongguan host Xinjiang in second round of the off-season semifinal series

The Xinjiang Flying Tigers are now in Dongguan, taking on the Leopards in their second match of the post-season semi-final series.
Xinjiang leads the series 1-0 after beating Dongguan by a single point in game 1.
Yesterday, the Guangdong Southern Tigers defeated the Beijing Ducks in round two of their semifinal matchup to level the series at a game apiece.
It score was again within three points, but this time Guangdong emerged on top beating the Ducks 99 to 96.
Williams secures new sponsorship deal with Martini
Team Williams has secured a new sponsorship deal with Italian drinks brand Martini before the new season gets started next week.
The multi-year agreement has added to a mood of optimism that Williams is on the way back.

Williams proved fast and reliable in final testing in Bahrain last week while competitors Red Bull and Lotus, among other teams, suffered mechanical problems that stranded the cars on the circuit.
Williams has acquired Brazil's Felipe Massa, who left Ferrari at the end of last season.
The new season blasts off on March 16th in Australia.
Sochi set to stage the biggest Paralympics event
The clock is now ticking towards the opening ceremony of the Winter Paralympics in the Russian city of Sochi.
575 athletes from 45 countries will compete for 72 gold medals in five sports over 10 days.
That represents the largest number of athletes and countries to take part in the event since it was first held in 1976.
The actual competition is due to get underway on Saturday.
