Dotty, Daniel and Debbie were playing together. Daniel and Debbie both had stripes, but Dotty had big spots.
“We don’t mind your spots.” said Daniel.
“Well, I do!” cries Dotty. “We should look the same. A tiger must have stripes!”
Dotty tried to wish her spots away, but it did not work.
So Dotty ran down to the river.
“I’ll wash my spots away.” She said.
SPLASH! Dotty plunged into the water, but the spots were still on her.
Then Dotty picked up some leaves.
“I’ll hide my spots away”. She said.
She stuck the leaves to her coat with mud, but they soon blew away!
“This is hopeless!” she sighed.
Just a bit later, Mother Tiger padded into the clearing.
“Come on, Daniel and Debbie. Let’s go for a swim in the river. “she called.
“YIPEE!” cheered Debbie and Daniel.
Dotty felt strange, “ Why did they leave me out?” She asked herself.
Then a big cat appeared. It was Mother Leopard.
Dotty watched Mother Leopard and thought, “She has spots, just like me!”
Suddenly, Mother Leopard came up to her.
“There you are, my dear baby Dotty! I’ve looked everywhere for you!” said Mother Leopard.
Mother Leopard picked up Dotty in her mouth.
“But why don’t I have stripes like Daniel and Debbie?” asked Dotty.
“You’re not a tiger, my honey. You’re a leopard! A leopard must have spots.” Mother Leopard explained. “You just went to the wrong place. Look, your real brothers and sisters are over there.”
“I’m glad I made my tiger friends, “says Dotty. “But it’s nice to be home.”
