Bella lived on the grassy plains of Africa. The sun was always hot.
“How can I keep cool, Mum?” asked the Bella.
“Let me show you,” replied Bella’s mother.
SCOOSH! The mother elephant squirted water over her back with her trunk.
Bella copied her.
“ This is really fun!” giggled Bella. She squirted water over her back again and again.
Then Bella’s brother, Ben, joined her in the pool. SCOOSH! He squirted water at Bella. Bella squirted him back.
“This is even more fun!” she chuckled.
Bella wanted to squirt more water, but the other elephants were gone.
GROWL! A big lion padded down to the pool. He was looking for a drink. He was very fierce!
“Want a water-fight, Mr Lion?” asked Bella and she squirted him in the face.
“ I hate getting wet!” roared the lion. “How dare you mess with the king of Beasts!”
“ Sorry! I just wanted to play,” called Bella.
But the lion got very angry at her. He started chasing Bella.
Luckily, Bella’s family watched this and came to help her. They chased the lion away.
Now Bella was upset. She stayed alone by the pond. Suddenly Bella smelled something.
“ What’s that terrible smell?” cried Bella. It’s the smell of burning! Under the burning sun, the dry grassland had started to catch fire!
Bella had seen fire before. She knew that rain put it out.
“ I must make it rain,” thought Bella. So she filled her trunk with water.
SCOOSH, SCOOSH! HISS, HISS!
The brave little elephant squirted water. After shower of cold water ate the fire. The fire began to die down.
“HURRAY! The fire’s out! “ cheered Bella.
Now the other animals came up to Bella to thank her.
“How brave you are! How clever you are!” trumpeted her mother. “You’ve saved us all from the greatest danger!”
Even the King of Beasts was happy. He gave Bella a big smile. “ Sorry I chased you, Bella,” he chuckled. “Now I ‘m really glad you like squirting water out of your trunk!”
