这首诗是诗人流传最广的一首诗出自诗人的《主要用苏格兰方言写的诗集》。诗人终歌颂了恋人的美丽，表达了诗人的炙热感情和对爱情的坚定决心。这首诗第一个显著的特点是它的音乐性，他保持着民谣自然、流畅、可咏可怂的特点。第二个显著的特点是对真挚感情的表达，诗人把爱人比作清纯而富有青春活力的玫瑰玫瑰，和优雅的乐曲。在当时，英国还处于新古典主义时期，这种真挚情感的自然流露极为少见。所以彭生诗歌的出现也标志着浪漫主义诗歌的开始。
