The answer is pretty simple. It’s because a lot of apps are specifically engineered by businesses to grab users. Most apps are written with an algorithm that can determine what its user likes or dislikes based on his or her usage patterns, past viewing history, personal information, and lots of other stuff. And once they know your interests, they will constantly feed you the content that you like and it will then be impossible for you to pull your head away from the screen. For example, if you love dogs and you’d demonstrated that love in any way, then a video app would recommend you all sorts of footages of lovely puppies and you would keep on watching them until your phone runs out of battery. It’s pretty scary if you really think about it, but unfortunately we live in the information age where there is almost no privacy at all. And that’s just how it is.
